Sodium sulfide is the chemical compound with the formula Na2S
Product Description:

SODIUM SULFIDE, Sulphide exporter and supplier. Sodium Sulfide 60% Flakes

Sodium sulfide is the chemical compound with the formula Na2S and it has an antfluorite structure. It’s a yellow appearance, water-soluble salts that give strongly alkaline solutions. When exposed to moist air, Na2S emit hydrogen sulfide, which smells like rotten eggs.

Product Application:

Sodium sulfide chemical formula Na2S.
Sodium sulfide is used in the pulp and paper industry, water treatment, textile industry, and various chemical manufacturing processes including the production of rubber chemicals, sulfur dyes and oil recovery.

Product Procedure:

The solution of Sodium Sulphide obtained from the process is concentrated to 10-12% and is available at different percentages in tanker loads. In Industries Na2S is produced by carbothermic reduction of sodium sulfate often using coal. It is used in the production of rubber chemicals, sulfur dyes and other chemical compounds. It is used in other applications including ore flotation, oil recovery, making dyes, and detergent.

Product Note:
  • Used as Depilatory reagent and in pharmaceutical Industries.
  • Used in obtaining the sulphur Black Dyes.
  • Used in Ore Floatation.
  • Used in Engraving and also used as analytical reagent.
  • Used for removing sulphur in viscous Rayon Industry.
  • Used in Industries to remove heavy metals from waste water.
  • Used in the manufacture of lubricating oils.

Do you know Sodium Sulfide solution is used during water treatment, as a metal precipitator.

Sodium sulfide (Na₂S) used in water treatment as a metal precipitator. It works by reacting with heavy metals in wastewater to form insoluble metal sulfides, which can then be removed by sedimentation or filtration. This process is particularly useful for removing toxic metals like lead, mercury, and cadmium, which are often present in industrial wastewater.

When sodium sulfide is added to the water, it dissociates into sodium ions (Na⁺) and sulfide ions (S²⁻). The sulfide ions bond with metal ions to create solid compounds, which can then be physically separated from the water. This treatment not only helps meet environmental standards but also reduces the risk of heavy metal pollution, which is highly harmful to ecosystems and human health.

Key properties include:

  • High solubility in water
  • Strong alkaline nature
  • Reactive in nature

Understanding these properties allows industries to harness sodium sulfide effectively. Production methods ensure its availability in the required purities and forms necessary for industrial applications. As a result, sodium sulfide continues to be a cornerstone in various manufacturing processes.

Key Sodium Sulfide Applications

Sodium sulfide is integral to various industrial applications. Its chemical properties enable its use in diverse processes. Industries such as pulp and paper, leather, water treatment, and mining rely heavily on this compound. The following sections explore sodium sulfide’s role across different sectors:

Pulp and Paper Industry

In the pulp and paper industry, sodium sulfide is crucial for the Kraft process, which breaks down wood chips into pulp. Sodium sulfide acts as a powerful reducing agent, aiding in lignin removal, which is essential for producing high-quality paper products. Without sodium sulfide, the efficiency of paper production would decrease significantly.

Leather Tanning and Processing

The leather industry benefits greatly from sodium sulfide, primarily in the dehairing process. Sodium sulfide helps efficiently remove hair from animal hides, preparing them for further processing into leather goods. The use of sodium sulfide ensures a smoother and more consistent final product.

Water Treatment and Corrosion Prevention

Sodium sulfide plays a crucial role in water treatment by acting as an oxygen scavenger. This prevents corrosion in pipelines by removing oxygen, thereby protecting metal components from rust. This protection significantly extends the lifespan of infrastructure. Efficient water treatment processes rely on sodium sulfide to maintain system integrity.

Mining and Ore Processing

In mining, sodium sulfide is used as a flotation agent to separate valuable minerals from ores. Sodium sulfide enhances the separation process by improving mineral recovery rates, ensuring the efficient extraction of desired metals. Ore processing would be less efficient without this critical compound.

Photographic and Dye Industries

Sodium sulfide is utilized in the photographic industry as a color developer, aiding in the formation of images on film. In the dye industry, it plays a role in synthesizing a wide range of dyes, which are essential for coloring textiles and other materials. Sodium sulfide’s versatility as a chemical reagent benefits these industries.

Textile Industry

In textiles, sodium sulfide is crucial for sulfur dyeing processes, helping to bind dyes to fabric fibers effectively. By reducing excess dye, it ensures vibrant, uniform colors, resulting in high-quality textile products with consistent coloring. Sodium sulfide’s application in textiles highlights its importance in dyeing technology.
