PHLOXIN B FOR MICROSCOPY
The CERTISTAIN dry dye Phloxin B (C.I. 45410) is used for the preparation of a staining solution for cytoplasmic staining in histological sections of human origin. It is mainly used in Hemytoxylin and Eosin (H&E) overview staining that is routinely performed in histological laboratories.
Phloxine B can be used as a differential versatile bacterial stain and establishes a correlation between the staining properties of the dye and its bactericidal effect.
Phloxine B can be used to stain deads cell of several yeasts, including Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe. When diluted in yeast growth media, the dye is unable to entere cell because of their membranes.
Phloxine B (commonly known simply as phloxine) is a water-soluble red dye used for coloring drugs and cosmetics in the United States[2] and coloring food in Japan.[3] It is derived from fluorescein, but differs by the presence of four bromine atoms at positions 2, 4, 5 and 7 of the xanthene ring and four chlorine atoms in the carboxyphenyl ring.
