HYDROCHLORIC ACID N/10 SOLUTION
Hydrochloric acid has many uses. It is used in the production of chlorides, fertilizers, and dyes, in electroplating, and in the photographic, textile, and rubber industries. Hydrochloric acid is corrosive to the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes.
N is the unit to represent the concentration of any substance in Normality. 1N of a substance = Number of equivalent weights /Volume of it in Litres. So, 1N HCl would mean 1gm equivalent of HCl dissolved in 1L solution. 0.1 N of HCl would obviously mean 0.1 gm equivalent of HCl dissolved in 1L of solution.
The Commercially available Conc. HCl is approximately 11.79 N. Take 8.4 ml of the above HCl and initially dilute it by slowly adding drop by drop and stirring it in about 500 ml of distilled water. Then make up the volume to 1000 ml in distilled water.
1N of a substance = Number of equivalent weights /Volume of it in Litres. 1N HCl would mean 1gm equivalent of HCl dissolved in 1 Litre solution. 0.1 N of HCl means 0.1 gm equivalent of HCl dissolved in 1 Litre of solution.
