Oxgall is a purified, dried form of ox bile used in bacteriological media formulations for gastro-intestinal tract organisms, eg  enterocossel agar

Application & Usage

Dehydrated ox bile ,used is preparation of microbiological culture media as a selectively inhibitory agent.It inhibits bacteria not growing in enteric environment and favours growth of enteric microorganisms.

Notes

This study aimed to analyze the bile acid patterns in commercially available oxgall powders used for evaluation of the bile tolerance ability of probiotic bacteria.
